Writers for the Revolution

Viva la Revolucion!

Who are we?

A small literary collective, created to challenge the lack of sociopolitical consciousness in mainstream creative writing spaces. Inspired by a poet who engages cultural and political history in their work, Writers for the Revolution aims to politicize creative writing culture and hold the artist accountable for their art. Originating in Turtle Island (so-called Canada), the movement is for the planet and we want folks to share the moniker under their respective campaigns and intiaitives. We will soon be opening participatory and decision-making membership. We stand for a free Palestine, an Azad Kashmir, a liberated Congo, upliftment of the global South and the fall of empire.

  • What do we do?

We’re new and figuring it out, but we’re open to anything anyone wants to write. Poetry, prose, songs, reporting, journal entries, academic-style essays- we want it all. Write from the heart and tell us stories of liberation. As we get traction, we’d love for people to host columns here.

Are you just writers?

This is a writing collective but as Malcolm X said- you do too much singing, not enough swinging. The doing has never been more crucial, maybe it will never be so again. We are at the cusp of irreversible climate destruction, maybe we are already past it. One thing’s for sure, business-as-usual is unacceptable. As such, WTFR intends to join local and global activism campaigns, fundraise and platform.
